New calls for proposals in the health sector are open: Global Health EDCTP3 and EP BrainHealth

New calls for proposals are open in the health sector, within two distinct frameworks.

The first three calls are part of Global Health EDCTP3, a unique partnership between Europe and Africa that aims to improve health through research and development. Their mission is to reduce the individual, social, and economic burden of poverty-related infectious diseases, including neglected, emerging, and re-emerging diseases in sub-Saharan Africa.

The three calls aim to promote research and innovation in sub-Saharan Africa. The primary objective is to improve the capacity to respond to epidemics, strengthen regional networks of excellence, develop new treatments and vaccines for infectious diseases, and train a new generation of public health experts. Specifically:

HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2026-01-two-stage, with a total budget of EUR 88.9 million. The deadlines for submitting proposals are 4 March 2026 (first stage) and 17 September 2026 (second stage). The three topics are:

    • HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3 2026-01-TB-01-two-stage: Global Collaboration Action for the development of TB drugs for therapy and chemoprophylaxis in adults and children in sub-Saharan Africa (RIA). Expected contribution per project: EUR 10 million, three projects to be funded.
    • HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3 2026-01-LRTI-02-two-stage: Global Collaboration Action for Prevention and treatment of Lower Respiratory Tract Infections (LRTIs) in sub Saharan Africa (RIA) Expected contribution per project EUR 8.47 million, 4 projects to be financed.
    • HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3 2026-01-HIV-03-two-stage: Global collaboration action towards a better prevention, treatment and clinical management of HIV co infections or co-morbidities in sub-Saharan Africa (RIA) Expected contribution per project EUR 5 million, 5 projects to be financed.

HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2026-02-two-stage, with a total budget of EUR 25 million. The deadlines for submitting proposals are March 4, 2026 (1st stage) and September 17, 2026 (2nd stage). The topic is as follows:

  • HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3 2026-02-CH-01-two-stage: Global Collaboration Action on climate and health in sub Saharan Africa (RIA) Expected contribution per project EUR 5 million, 5 projects to be financed.

HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2026-03, with a total budget of EUR 33 million and expiring on 2 September 2026:

  • HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2026-03-SERP-01: Training and innovation networks for sustained capacity development related to ethics, regulatory, pharmacovigilance, and related digital regulatory platforms (CSA) Project contribution EUR 1.5 million, for 10 projects to be financed.
  • HORIZON-JU-GH-EDCTP3-2026-03-DIGIT-02: Enhancing integrated research and healthcare in sub-Saharan Africa through digital innovation and Artificial Intelligence (CSA) Project Contribution EUR 2.25 million, 8 projects to be financed.

As for the program EP BrainHealthTwo open calls have been published. CSA BrainHealth is the European Brain Health Partnership, whose primary objective is to holistically address the biomedical, economic, and social challenges in brain health in Europe and globally and improve the well-being of people living with neurological and mental health conditions.

The first EP BrainHealth call, Biological, social and environmental factors that impact the trajectory of brain health across the lifespan – in the field of neurological, mental and sensory disorders presents an overall budget of EUR 26.260.000. In this regard, the Ministry of Health will provide EUR 700.000 for two fundable research groups, while the Regional Foundation for Biomedical Research (Lombardia) will finance EUR 750.000 for two fundable research groups.

The second EP BrainHealth call, Biological, social and environmental factors that impact the trajectory of brain health across the lifespan – in the field of neurodegeneration has a total budget of EUR 27.540.000. In this regard the Ministry of Health will provide EUR 800.000 for two fundable research groups, while the Regional Foundation for Biomedical Research (Lombardia) will finance EUR 750.000 for two fundable research groups.

The deadline for both EP BrainHealth calls is March 10, 2026 for short proposals, while full proposals must be submitted by June 30, 2026.
