It is now possible to submit project proposals for Interregional Innovation Investments Strand 1 (I3-2026-INV1) and Strand 2a (I3-2026-INV2a).
The I3 tool (Interregional Innovation Investments) It supports interregional innovation projects in the scale-up and commercialization phases, bringing them to investment level. It aims to providegreater autonomy for regional and national actors in the innovation sector, strengthening ecosystems, promoting sustainable investment connections and accelerating the market uptake of research results. The I3 Instrument addresses the challenges of digital and green transition and smart manufacturing and encourages the connection with the urgent challenges identified in the New European Innovation Agenda and with critical technologies outlined in the Strategy Platform for Technology in Europe. Implemented under the cohesion policy, the I3 instrument supports interregional cooperation in innovation, using the smart specialization strategies (S3) as a framework for connecting regional strengths, aligning complementary capabilities and strengthening EU value chains.
In particular, Strand 1 is aimed at consortia of innovation actors aimed at increasing the competitiveness and resilience of EU value chains, advancing new and innovative solutions towards market maturity that translate into products, services or production processes new or significantly improved. The overall budget amounts to EUR 28.2 million, with a maximum contribution of project equal to EUR 10 million.
Lo Strand 2aInstead, supports the creation of new value chains in less developed regions and better integration of the actors of these regions in the existing pan-European value chains, through the creation and/or diffusion of innovative solutionsThe total budget amounts to EUR 30.2 million, with a maximum contribution of project equal to EUR 10 million.
Both Strands focus on investment ideas ready to be developed into mature business models, through a portfolio of complementary and interconnected investments in the participating regions. Furthermore, the consortia will have to demonstrate a balanced participation of regions with different levels of development and performance in the field of innovation.
The deadline for submitting proposals for both calls is set for 12st November 2026.
