Battery Booster Facility: €1.5 billion in loans for battery cell production projects

The new call for proposals is now open for battery cell production projects in the context of Battery Booster Facility, a structure established in June 2026 by the European Commission to strengthen Europe's position in the global battery market.

Specifically, the call is aimed at projects for the production of battery cells suitable for electric vehicle applications, that:

are found in production start-up phase at the time of the tender opening;
represent the first full-scale commercial production project of electric vehicle battery cells globally;
have to have a expected annual production capacity of at least 10 GWh.

Through the financing of the Innovation Fund, the call makes available EUR 1,5 billion in interest-free loans to support related projects during the critical growth phase between pre-production and full commercial operationThe call is open to projects located throughout the European Economic Area (EES). The selected projects will benefit from coverage up to 60% of eligible costs, with a maximum of EUR 500 million per project.

The deadline for submitting project proposals is set for 30 September 2026.
