Proposals are now open for six new calls under the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking to accelerate quantum technologies by enhancing Europe's capabilities in navigation, computation, and standardization. EuroHPC JU is Europe's high-performance computing joint undertaking, which aims to develop a world-class supercomputing ecosystem while strengthening Europe's scientific excellence and industrial strength.
The six calls in question are the following:
- Trapped-Ion Platform Technologies – HORIZON-JU-EUROHPC-2026-TIPT-09-01
The main objective of this call is to support the scale-up of European trapped-ion quantum computing platforms, aiming for technological maturity and usability for industrial and scientific applications. In particular, the action needs to address at least two important technical hurdles: (1) the limited scalability of ion trap architectures, in particular the need for modular designs and inter-chain coupling, and (2) the integration of photonic components for laser delivery, enabling compact and fault-tolerant systems.
It is expected that activities will start at TRL level 4 and reach level TRL 7 by the end of the project. The total indicative budget available for this call is €20 millionIt is expected to be funded a single project.
- Quantum-Testing Infrastructure for Quantum Technologies – HORIZON-JU-EUROHPC-2026-QTI-13-01
The call aims to implement the testing component of the action plan established under the Qu-Test Framework Partnership Agreement. The action must include (non-exhaustive list): the expansion and interconnection of open-access testing facilities in multiple Member States, the development and implementation of interoperable testing methodologies, benchmarking protocols, and certification procedures, etc.
Testing activities should validate technologies starting from TRL 3/4 and reaching TRL 5/7 by the end of the project. The maximum EU contribution amounts to €20 million; it is expected to be funded a single project.
- Next-Generation QKD Systems – HORIZON-JU-EUROHPC-2026-NQKD-12-01
The ultimate goal is to support applied research and development in advanced QKD systems and their integration into future secure communication networks, avoiding overlap with EuroQCI implementation activities. Proposals should include (non-exhaustive list): Development and experimental validation of advanced QKD protocols and systems; Design and implementation of quantum cryptography (QKD) integration into classical and optical network infrastructures; Demonstration of hybrid QKD-PQC frameworks in at least two realistic and demanding use cases; etc.
It is expected that activities will start at TRL level 4 and reach level TRL 7 by the end of the project. The maximum EU contribution amounts to €24 million; it is expected to be funded a single project.
- Quantum Experimental Pilot Lines for Quantum Technologies– HORIZON-JU-EUROHPC-2026-QEXP-14-01
The call aims to implement the pilot production elements of the Qu-Pilot Framework Partnership Agreement. The proposal should promote the maturity of quantum hardware technologies in line with the EU industrial strategy, focusing on flexibility, innovation, and scalability. The proposal should (non-exhaustive list) establish and scale up experimental pilot production infrastructures for TRL4-6 hardware technologies with a strong R&D focus; develop pre-industrial processes for quantum processors, quantum sensors, and cryogenic-compatible packaging and interconnects; etc.
The planned activities aim to validate the technologies starting from TRL 3/4 level and reach TRL 5/7 by the end of the project. The maximum EU contribution amounts to €15 million; it is expected to be funded a single project.
- Superconducting Platform Technologies – HORIZON-JU-EUROHPC-2026-SPT-10-01
The primary objective of this call is to contribute to the scale-up and practical implementation of superconducting quantum computing platforms and must address at least two of the critical technical hurdles identified in SRIA 2030, necessarily including: (1) Error correction and fault tolerance through significant improvements in logic gate fidelity, coherence times, and noise mitigation strategies; (2) Cryogenic and interconnect engineering, integration with cryoelectronics, and efficient signal routing at low temperatures at the scale of more than 1.000 qubits, while also addressing scalability issues that impede the implementation of an industrial-grade quantum computing platform.
It is expected that activities will start at TRL level 4 and reach level TRL 7 by the end of the project. The maximum EU contribution amounts to €20 million; it is expected to be funded a single project.
- Neutral-Atom Platform Technologies– HORIZON-JU-EUROHPC-2026-NAPT-11-01
The call aims to advance the maturity and usability of neutral-atom quantum processor platforms, with a focus on practical applications. Proposals should include (non-exhaustive list): the development and implementation of scalable quantum processors with individually addressable neutral atoms to support analog simulation operations, hybrid analog-digital techniques, and gate-based quantum computing; and demonstration of real-world use cases—at least two—that address complex scientific or industrial problems that are intractable with classical simulation/computation. These should include benchmarking and verification strategies to assess quantum advantage.
It is expected that activities will start at TRL level 4 and reach level TRL 7 by the end of the project. The maximum EU contribution amounts to €20 million; it is expected to be funded a single project.
The deadline for all calls listed here is set for November 17, 2026
